Rams beat Spartans in Classic
Source: Albuquerque Journal, N.mini storageM.Dec. 14--Wrapping up the past week of prep basketball in the Rio West area:BoysFRIDAY: It was a festival of free throws and 3-pointers Friday afternoon at Albuquerque Academy, where Rio Rancho outscored Bernalillo 84-80 in a consolation bracket game of the Joe Armijo Classic.The teams combined for 16 treys and 70 free throws.Junior guard Brady Patterson led the Rams with 28 points. Carl Herrera of the Spartans made half a dozen 3's and led Bernalillo with 26 points.Today, Rio Rancho meets Las Cruces for fifth place at 11:30 a.m. Bernalillo takes on Los Alamos for seventh place at 8 a.m.At the Sandia Prep tournament, Pojoaque posted a 67-44 win over Bosque School. Gabe Chavez had 20 points to lead the Bobcats.THURSDAY: Valley had one of the week's most impressive victories, thrashing Manzano 60-37.Adonis Saltes led the way with 17 points for the 5-0 Vikings. Joe Anaya added 14 points, Aaron Molina 11.Rio Rancho and Bernalillo suffered first-round losses at the Armijo Classic.The Spartans fell 70-53 to the host Chargers. Santiago Dominguez had 12 points for Bernalillo.The Rams played well, but were beaten 65-61 by Highland. Bryce Peever was the only Rio Rancho player in double figures, with 11 points.Cleveland routed El Paso Fabens 71-25 at the Farmington tournament. Ryan Jones had a team-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers.At Sandia Prep's tournament, Silver beat Bosque School 45-38. Gabe Chavez and Miles Horton combined for all but two of the Bobcats' points.WEDNESDAY: Sandia beat visiting St. Pius 51-42. Emilio Arellano led the Sartans with 12 points.TUESDAY: Volcano Vista picked up a key win, downing Atrisco Heritage迷你倉58-51. Seth Warfield had 18 points for the Hawks; Patrick Roark and Joe Brooks scored 14 apiece for the Jaguars.Brady Patterson hit two free throws with three seconds left, giving Rio Rancho its first win of the season, 76-74 at Gallup.Ray Reyes had 24 points for St. Pius in its 61-57 setback to Grants.GirlsFRIDAY: Volcano Vista remained perfect at 5-0, beating Eldorado 72-63. Senior guards Hannah Fenske and Bianca Perez combined for 40 points, including six 3-pointers.Roswell edged Rio Rancho 42-39 in the semifinals of the Rams' Mel Otero Invitational. The Rams face Hobbs for third place today.Valley earned a 65-51 decision over Sandia on Friday. Briana Roybal led the Vikings with 16 points. Shaynea Sham-burger added 15 and Alexis Reyes 13 in Valley's victory.Cleveland easily handled West Mesa 65-28. Savannah Montoya had 19 points, Jade Hill 16 for the Storm (4-3). West Mesa remained winless at 0-4.THURSDAY: Rio Rancho won its first-round game at the Mel Otero, defeating Hatch Valley 58-42.
