UMW summit set for Oct. 29

The university will share the results of a regional economic development plan that began last fall and received input from more than 200 business and community leaders.The parent company of Waldorf, Md.-based Community Bank of Tri-County this week raised about $24 million in net proceeds in an initial public offering. The bank, which will soon be renamed Community Bank of the Chesapeake, has a branch in King George County and a commercial lending office in Fredericksburg. The bank's parent, Tri-County Financial Corp., now trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol TCFC.Edwin Wyant's Virginia Wine Experience store has moved from Caroline Street to its new home at Eagle Village in Fredericksburg. The business also has a new name: Hop & Wine.Andre Pineda has been promoted to partner at financial advisory firm Cary Street Partners.Halloween City has opened temporary stores at 3501 Plank Road and 9745 Jefferson Davis Highway in Spotsylvania County.A grand opening celebration was held Thur迷你倉day night for the Silver Cos.' new Poet's Walk memory-care facility near the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.A new 7�leven store has opened in the Carmel Church area of Caroline, near the county's visitors center.Julie Kreider's Zinga Frozen Yogurt opened last week at 10400 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania.The Highlightz Event Center off U.S. 1 in southern Stafford will hold a ribbon-cutting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.John G. Lee, a principal with the local Lee?urtis Insurance Service Inc. firm, was recently installed as president of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents.An affiliate of County Waste last month paid $1.2 million for the 4.5-acre property that Shifflett's Container Service had owned at 10 Le Way Drive off U.S. 17 in Stafford, according to county property records. The sale was part of the two companies' merger.Rocking The Chair, a business that offers salvaged and repurposed furniture, has opened in its ground-level space at 915 Sophia St. in downtown Fredericksburg.
