Local shelters helping people out in cold
Source: Dayton Daily News, OhioJan.儲存倉 06--Housing shelters in the Miami Valley are getting ready for an influx of people who need to get warm amid dangerous sub-zero temperatures, especially the homeless and those with trouble heating their homes.Shelters are open for all day and night relief for anyone needing assistance, said Bryan Fraley, Operations Manager at St. Vincent Gateway Shelter, 120 W. Apple Street in Dayton.He said he has room for hundreds more at the Apple Street shelter for women and children. The men's Gateway shelter at 1921 S. Gettysburg also has room for hundreds more needing a place to warm up. On Monday morning there were 114 at the women's shelter and 150 at the men's shelter, Fraley said.At this point, the number of residents at the shelters is about normal, Fraley said. He added that he expects the number to increase Monday night.Two representatives from Miami Valley Housing Opportunities, a nonprofit housing provider, worked the streets of Dayton and other parts of Montgomery County on Monday morning seeking out people who might need help.Coats, hats, gloves and bus tokens were provided to three homeless men as well as encouragement to seek shelter, said Andrea McGriff, Outreach Director.The agency also runs the PATH program, which tries to permanently place homeless people. "This is what we do everyday, but we did extra coverage too," she said. "We seek out the homeless people where they are at."Kaiya Kinley Barrett, spokeswoman for the Dayton/Cincinnati Chapter of the American Red Cross, said the Red Cross has set up a迷你倉最平shelter and location for hot meals in the gym of the Salvation Army at 15 S. Plum Street in Springfield.As of 8:30 a.m., three local residents have used the shelter overnight and 10 stopped by to get a hot meal.At the YWCA Shelter on Third Street in downtown Dayton which specializes in helping people in domestic violence situations, spokeswoman Stacy Copley said she's ready to provide referrals for anyone needing help in the cold emergency.
