Local groups receive state housing grants

Source: Northwest Florida Daily News, Fort Walton BeachJan.迷你倉將軍澳 15--The state has awarded more than $4.4 million in grants to shelters and outreach groups to meet housing needs across Northwest Florida.The Emergency Solutions Grants were funded by the Florida Department of Children and Families.The funding, which aids Okaloosa, Walton, Santa Rosa, Bay and Escambia counties, included $2.2 million to help people at risk of losing their homes and people in need of permanent rental housing; $2 million to improve the quality of emergency shelters for the homeless, and $153,000 for services to unsheltered homeless people.In Okaloosa County, Opportunity Place, the emergency shelter of the Okaloosa Walton Homeless Continuum of Care, received $54,657."It pays for upkeep, repairs, a portio of people's salaries," Executive Director Shelly Poirrier said. "We couldn't exist without this."Poirrier said the annual funding continues to dwindle each year."This is why we look elsewhere for funding, constantly asking for donations and holding fundraisers," she said.Other nonprofits that received grants were Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, United Way of Santa Rosa and Families Count of Bay, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties.Contact Daily News Staff Writer Kari C.
