CCAC enrollment falls nearly 8 percent

Source: Pittsburgh Post-GazetteSept.迷你倉新蒲崗 06--Enrollment at the Community College of Allegheny County is down this fall by nearly 8 percent, a trend administrators say reflects in large part the improved economy's impact on student demand for courses. The enrollment figures were released Thursday as CCAC's board of trustees met on the school's Allegheny campus on the North Shore. The numbers show that as of this week, 17,641 credit-seeking students were enrolled collegewide, compared with 19,131 students last year at this time.College officials described the decline as largely cyclical: Demand for worker retraining spikes when the economy sours and dips when it rebounds, and students getting more hours of work sometimes cut back on their course load.Other factors, including the drop in high school graduates, may also have contributed to the decline, CCAC spokeswoman Elizabeth Johnston said."We were at such historic high levels during the recession, so what we're seeing is a readjustment to our normal enrollment level," she said.Still, fewer tuition-paying stu迷你倉出租ents will mean less revenue for the college. Amy Kuntz, chairwoman of the trustees, said after the meeting that CCAC will take steps to reduce spending within its budget to compensate for the lower numbers. The enrollment decline is one reason CCAC said it wants to secure as a precaution a line of credit or a loan to ensure adequate cash flow.At Thursday's meeting, the trustees authorized the administration to send out a request for proposals for bond counsel services to explore CCAC's best options for obtaining credit. Language in the request for proposals indicates the line of credit or loan would be worth approximately $10 million."With the decline in enrollment, the college should take steps to ensure the adequate level of operating cash balance," stated background material contained in the board's meeting agenda.Bill Schackner: bschackner@post-gazette.com, 412-263-1977 and Twitter: @BschacknerPG.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Visit the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette at .post-gazette.com Distributed by MCT Information Services迷你倉
