Bailey Sr., who has been pastor of St. Andrew Baptist Church, 3115 N. Garrison Ave., for 33 years.Bailey underwent open heart surgery in Oklahoma City in early September and will be hospitalized for two months. His medical expenses are expected to exceed $400,000.The first event will be a musical program at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at his church. Other events are planned at Northeast Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City at 6 p.m. Oct. 20; St. Mark Baptist Church in Muskogee at 6 p.m. Nov. 24 and 7 p.m. Dec. 29-31 at the church in Tulsa.Donations can be made to the church, labeled "In Care of Dr. B.M. Bailey."Bailey is a well-known preacher in Oklahoma, and a former moderator of the Creek District Association of the National Baptist Church.He has four sons who pastor churches. His youngest son, Berthaddaeus Bailey, spoke at the Martin Luther King. Jr., 50th anniversary commemoration last month in Tulsa.Tulsa School of Apologetics to hold weekly fall classesThe Tulsa School of Apologetics and Practical Theology will hold weekly fall classes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday through Nov. 5 at the Church at Battle Creek, 3025 N. Registration also will be available before the first class.St. Jerome to mark Catholic communion's 10th anniversarySt. Jerome Parish of Tulsa, 205 W. King St., on Sunday will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, of which it is a part.The Rev. Francis Quintana, associate pastor, said the communion is an association of more than 50 parishes in 14 states that maintain core Catholic theology and dogma, but take a contemporary approach to church structure, life and discipline.The communion, which is not part of the Roman Catholic Church, ordains men and women, allows married priests, welcomes gay and lesbians as members and clergy, allows divorced people to take communion and considers contraception a private matter of conscience.Lay people have equal voice with the clergy and bishops in decision-making, and pastors are selected by local communities rather than by bishops, Quintana said.The anniversary will be celebrated at an 11 a.m Mass on Sunday.The celebration will continue with an 11 a.m. Mass on Sept. 29, at which a statue of St. Jerome by Tulsa artist Jeff B自存倉ierly will be blessed. A potluck luncheon will follow. Guests are welcome.Zomi Gospel Concert USA to feature global entertainersSeveral international entertainers will perform at the Zomi Gospel Concert USA at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Union High School Performing Arts Center, 6636 S. Mingo Road, and also at 7 p.m. Sunday at Skelly Drive Baptist Church, 8504 E. Skelly Dr.The concerts are in the Zomi language for Tulsans of Zomi descent who have moved from their homeland of Myanmar. Some 3,500 Zomi people live in Tulsa.Performing will be singer and composer JK Kam from Norway; singer Idol Niangpi, winner of the Zomi Idol competition, from Myanmar; and Lengtong Kam Khen from Myanmar, who has been called the best-known comedian in the Zomi world.The Tulsa-based Global Outreach and Community Development is hosting the entertainers in Tulsa, and taking them on a tour of other U.S. cities.Architecture lecture to be held at Holy Family CathedralDuncan G. Stroik, professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame, will speak on sacred architecture at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Holy Family Cathedral downtown.The free public lecture is one of several events leading up to Holy Family's 100th anniversary of the dedication of its present building. Tours of the cathedral will follow at 3 p.m.Stroik is the founding editor of Sacred Architecture Journal.See You at the Pole student prayers to be held WednesdayDozens of Tulsa-area schools will join thousands of schools across the nation Wednesday for See You at the Pole, a student-initiated, student-led time of prayer on campus before classes begin.The observance began in a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas, in 1990, and has spread across the U.S. and to many other nations, including Canada and Australia.An estimated 3 million students participate each year.Two Tulsa churches to host seven-week course on financesTwo Tulsa churches will host a new program by financial guru Dave Ramsey, whose popular Financial Peace University has been held at dozens of local churches.Ramsey's new seven-week course is a follow-up to Financial Peace University, which emphasized getting out of debt.Called the Legacy Journey, the new course is designed to help families build wealth to have a lasting legacy once their finances are under control.It will be offered at:-- Highland Park Christian Church, 5708 E. 31st St., beginning at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9.
